Sampoorna Surya Grahanam on 22 July 2009

Surya Grahan (Solar Eclipse) that occurs on 22 July, 2009 is the first grahanam in this new Hindu year. Hindus are mainly concerned about the Surya Grahan because of its extreme effects or results on people. Surya Grahan of 22 July, 2009 has a great importance because it is a sampoorna surya grahanam (total solar eclipse). Surya Grahan may show some bad effects on natives of some rashis (zodiac signs).

It is interesting that this Grahan is a total solar eclipse in some regions of India whereas some parts of India will view this as total lunar eclipse. In some parts of North India (Bihar and Madhya Pradesh), this grahanam is a total lunar eclipse. However, it will be partial eclipse (Pakshik graham) in most of the places in India. It will be viewed as partial solar eclipse in Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Surat, Delhi and Hyderabad.

Time of Surya Grahan – Grahan Kaal on July 22, 2009:
Surya Grahan begins at 5.25 hours in the early morning and ends at 7.40 hours.
Grahan Sparsh kaal – 05.28 hrs
Suryodayam (
Sunrise) – 05.52 hrs
Grahan madhyakaal – 06.24 hrs
Grahan Moksh kaal – 07.21 hrs

Grahan Gochaar – Effect of Surya Grahan on different rashis or zodiac signs:

As per the Grahan Gochaar, it is advisable to the natives of Pushyami nakshatra (birth star constellation) and the natives of Karka (Karkatak), Simha (Leo), Dhanu (Sagittarius) rasis to avoid seeing the Surya Grahan of 22 July, 2009.

Surya Grahan that occurs on 22 July, 2009 is most favorable and brings out good results to the natives of Vrushabh (Taurus), Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra) and Kumbh (Aquarius) rasis or zodiac signs.
This Surya Grahan makes average results for the natives of Mithun (Gemini), Vruschik (Scorpio), Makar (Capricorn) and Meen (Pisces) rasis or zodiac signs.
This Surya Grahan is unfavorable and bad for the natives of Mesh (Aries), Karkataka (Cancer), Simha (Leo) and Dhanu (Sagittarius) rasis or zodiac signs.

We can witness many Chandra Grahans (Lunar Eclipses), but Surya Grahans (Solar Eclipses) are very rare. As per the science also, Lunar Eclipse has very less effects on living beings but Solar Eclipse significantly affects the living world.

Avoidable and recommendable works during Surya Grahan and Chandra Grahan:
It is advisable to avoid performing any important work or deal.
After Grahan, many Hindus perform ritual bath. Take meal only after the ritual bath. Taking a holy dip in rivers or lakes is highly auspicious.
Many Hindus observe fasting on the day of Surya or Chandra Grahanam.
Avoid outside food during grahanam and as well as the whole day.
Perform ritual bath, Puja, Japam, havan and all other rituals only after Grahan Moksh Kaal (the time when grahan is released).

Avoid eating at the time of Grahanam.
Avoid eating the food which is cooked before Grahan. Take the food which is cooked after Grahan. People can eat the food that is prevented from ‘Soothak’ (Ashouch). To prevent food from Soothak, just spill some til seeds or keep grass blades (Durva grass) on the food before grahan.
During Surya Grahan, reciting Surya Stotras such as Aditya Hridayam; Maha Mritunjaya Mantram and Vishnu Stotras is highly auspicious.

The stotra given below states the above things:
Sarveshameva varnaanaam soothakam raahu darshane!

Gita Jayanti marks the day in which the Bhagavad Gita was rendered by Lord Krishna to Arjuna. Gita Jayanthi

Gita Jayanti, also referred as Bhagawad Geetha Jayanthi, is the day when the Bhagvad Gita was rendered by Lord Krishna to Arjuna in the Kurukshetra on the first day of the famous 18-day battle in the Mahabharata.

Gita Jayanthi falls on the Ekadashi day of Shukla Paksha of the Margashirsha month.

Bhagavad Gita adapts to the present and discusses an issue by rooting itself in the present.

Arjuna was confused whether to fight or not against his Pithamaha, Gurugalu, Brothers, and other elder Kauravas in Kurukshetra. He decided not to fight and asked suggestion of Geethacharya – Srikrishna.

Then Srikrishna gave him Vishnuroopa Darshana to him and gave a good lecture – Srimadbhagavad Geetha.

Every moment a confused Arjuna opens the Gita to take the advice of Krishna . And through the immortal Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna has been discussing and debating and finding solutions to the various problems faced by the confused Arjunas for centuries and will continue to do the same forever.

The day is observed all around the world with the reading of Bhagavad Gita, which is referred outside India as the Bible of the Hindus. Discussions and seminars are organized on the day.

Srimadacharyaru has given a very good tatparya nirnaya on Bhagavad Geetha.

One must read atleast one stanza of Bhagavad Geetha on this great day with the Tatparnirnaya of Srimadacharya.

hari sarvottama, vayu jeevottama, panchabedha, taratamya

Trip guide to Mantralayam Raghavendra Swamy Mutt

This Guide will help you out in having peaceful Trip to Mantralayam with your family or friends. As You know, Mantralayam is a heavenly place for all Raghavendra Swamy desciples and Madhwas.  The Temple environment, the Puja Programmes  especially  Evening Programs  never missout Once atleast in your lifetime to see the Vaibhava of  Seva  Performed daily in the evening at around 8.00PM you can see chariots carrying the deity being drawn around the temple and the temple elephants paying obeisance to the deity. It is quite a spectacular sight. There are three chariots, one plated in gold, the other in silver and the third in sandalwood. See the Chariots  in our Wall paper section .

It is a must to wear dhoti for gents and indian attire like sari, salwar kameez for ladies to enter the sanctum if you want to go near to the Brindavan or do aarthi on your own. Before entering the sanctum sanctorium of mutt, you are advised to take a bath (or atleast wash your feet) on the banks of Tungabhadra river (or at the tap in front of the mutt). Have the darshan of Manchalamma, the godess who blessed the place for Shri Raghavendra Swamy’s Vrindavanam. Then, you need to enter the sanctum of mutt through the queue complex in front of mutt. If you are lucky enough and there’s no rush for the darshan, you can enter the sanctum directly (ofcourse, you have to bear with queue of smaller length). After the darshan, you can quietly move around the sanctum chanting the stotras of Sri Raghavendra Swamy or simply chant Sri Raghavendraya Namaha.

If you are offering sevas exceeding Rs. 50/-, you are required to assemble in the seva hall on the right side of the sanctum before 8.00 am. Hence you are required to purchase the seva tickets the previous day. Please note that the seva timings might vary or sevas might be cancelled on auspicious days like Rama Navami, Madhva Navami, Aradhana days and on the days of eclipse. Parimala prasadams are unique kind of prasadams prepared and offered to deity in Mantralayam only which are available in the counters outside the sanctum.

Mass feeding of meals takes place in a large dining hall on the left side of the sanctum during afternoons. During nights you can purchase food items like puliogare, pongal from Annadaata counter in front of the mutt by paying a small amount.
